Surgery

Given that Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is a subspecialty of OB/GYN, the SRM physicians perform very specific surgeries as it relates to infertility, reproduction and menstrual issues. Surgeries related to being pregnant, other than first trimester pregnancy failures such as D&C’s, are not done by SRM physicians. Our physicians have a special expertise in minimally invasive surgery, i.e. laparoscopy, to treat gynecologic issues such as endometriosis and fibroids so that postoperative recovery is minimized as much as possible. Such issues are commonly encountered when a couple presents with an inability to conceive and can be detected by ultrasounds done in the office. Such surgeries are done at the local hospital

Other gynecologic surgeries, such as hysteroscopies are done in our fully accredited surgery center in our Westlake office, for your convenience, without the hustle and bustle of the hospital or the scheduling inconvenience of trying to coordinate with other surgeons. A hysteroscopy is a camera that inserted into the cervix and with special small instruments, fibroids and polyps, can be removed to increase chances to get pregnant. Such issues can be diagnosed by your SRM physician with straightforward quick outpatient procedures requiring no anesthesia such as a office hysteroscopy, hysterosalpingograms (HSG), saline infusion sonograms or transvaginal ultrasounds. All of which can be done for your convenience in one of our three offices throughout the seattle metro area. Hysterscopies can be performed by our physicians to also treat uterine abnormalities, like uterine septums, and intrauterine adhesions.

Both laparoscopies and hysteroscopies are both done on an outpatient basis and require a day to perform and then you are able to go home that day, a few hours after the surgery has been completed. Bigger surgeries such as myomectomies or hysterectomies, require a bigger incision, that require a 1-2 day stay in the hospital. How the surgery is performed will be determined by your SRM physician and can be discussed in your preoperative visit with him/ her.

Tubal reversals (taking tubes that have been ligated/cut/burned/tied and putting them back together again) can also be done by our specialists and can be done as a reasonable alternative to in-vitro fertilization to getting pregnant. Generally, general OBGYN’s in the community do not perform this delicate surgery that requires specialized equipment to perform the surgery with the best chances of getting pregnant. Please contact our call center representative and they will schedule an appointment with the SRM physicians that can perform this surgery at 206-301-5008 or click here for more information.
